An official Fiesta®
San Antonio event, Cornyation is one of
the most popular events of Fiesta Week.
Cornyation can be traced back to as early
as 1951. It was originally staged by SALT
(San Antonio Little Theater) at the Arneson
River Theater as part of A Night in Old
San Antonio®. The show's irreverent pokes
at politicians, the prominent and the not-so-prominent
caused its demise as part of NIOSA in 1964.
It was moved and performed once more in
1965. The show was revived in 1979 for one
year as part of NIOSA and then in 1982 Bob
Jolly and Ray Chavez revived the current
version which has remained uninterrupted
for 26 years!
Since becoming a
non-profit organization, Cornyation has
donated over $500,000 (that's over half
a million dollars, people!) to local charities.
Last year's beneficiaries include SAAF (San Antonio
AIDS Foundation), Beat AIDS (Black Effort
Against the Threat of AIDS), and Jennifer's Camp (AARC).
Please remember that
Cornyation is a charitable event. Everyone
involved in the show participates and gives
their time entirely on a volunteer basis.
CornyAngels and Corporate Sponsorships are
made available so that we can raise more
money for the charities that we care about.
It is not a way to pay more money for preferential
treatment. It is a way for you to generously
donate money to the charities we support,
and in return we show our gratitude with
advanced seat reservations .
Our motto remains
"Cornyation - the raunchiest, cheapest event
of Fiesta” (Ray Chavez)
